Beset by high rates of unemployment and cases of HIV, this township is in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
The people live mainly in flimsy housing, often made with corrugated iron. In recent years a number of better quality, brick bungalows have been built. Many homes do not have electricity.
This woman is HIV positive. She lost her husband when a fire they had lit in their previous home burned the whole place down. She now washes clothes in exchange for food.
Her home leaks and floods when the rains come. She has previously lost many of her possessions that way. The Missionvale Care Centre has provided her with replacement furniture.
Bishop was due to live in this house when it was finished, and showed me around the township on the day I was there. Sadly he died of pneumonia some months later.
